Vehicle belonging to the estate of a deceased person
Decisions concerning a car, tractor or other vehicle belonging to the estate of a deceased person are taken jointly by the parties to the estate.
No registration notification is required to report the transfer of ownership to the estate. If the estate sells the vehicle, a notification must be submitted within 7 days from the date when the vehicle was transferred from the ownership of the estate to a new owner.
To carry out registrations on behalf of an estate, only one party to the estate needs to sign the documents. The party signing the notification is responsible for ensuring that they have the consent of the other parties. There is no need to draw up a document granting consent.
A vehicle belonging to an estate can be registered at an inspection station that provides registration services or at an insurance company. Estates cannot use e-services because they cannot be granted online banking credentials, which are needed for identification in e-services.
