Supported regional flights will continue to be operated by Finnair

Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom has signed a contract with Finnair to organise air traffic to five regional airports. Flights from Helsinki to Joensuu, Jyväskylä, Kajaani, Kemi-Tornio and Kokkola-Pietarsaari continue after the current agreement period ends at the start of the end of April.

Finnair won the tender for organising regular regional flights between the airports of Helsinki and Joensuu, Helsinki and Jyväskylä, Helsinki and Kajaani, Helsinki and Kemi-Tornio and Helsinki and Kokkola-Pietarsaari for the period of 29 April 2024–28 March 2026. The change from before is that now there are direct connections to Kemi-Tornio and Kokkola-Pietarsaari, meaning that the triangle flights have been abandoned.

"We started contract negotiations after the purchase decision. They have now been finalized and contracts have now been signed for all routes. The flights continue as operated by Finnair without breaks between the agreement periods”, says Director Pipsa Eklund.

The flights are operated by Norra (Nordic Regional Airlines). Each connection has an average of 10 round-trip flights per week. The weekly number of flights may vary slightly at different times in different regions. Timetables are planned in the regions to meet the needs of the regions.

Flight schedules and tickets will become available on the Finnair web page (External link) on 6 March 2024.
