Application for approval or renewal of approval as a railway doctor or railway psychologist
Traficom approves the railway doctors and railway psychologists working in Finland.
Railway doctors
Physicians who have completed the basic course for railway doctors are required to hold the right to practice as a medical specialist in a relevant field of medicine (e.g. occupational health care, general medicine, internal medicine or neurology) unless they have acted as medical experts or occupational health physicians in the field on railway traffic before 1 July 2018.
Initial approval must be applied for within one year from completing the training.
Railway doctors assess the medical fitness of drivers operating rolling stock.
Railway psychologists
Physicians who have completed the basic course for railway psychologists are required to hold a valid certificate of psychological personality assessments. This requirement does not apply to those who have been approved as expert psychologists before 1 July 2018.
Initial approval must be applied for within one year from completing the training.
Railway psychologists assess the psychological fitness of drivers operating rolling stock.
Renewal of approval as a railway doctor or railway psychologist
Railway doctors and railway psychologists are approved for a maximum of five years. The payment for a period of admission is EUR 100, which is paid in connection with the application.
To maintain professional competence and retain the approval, a railway doctor or psychologist must:
- attend refresher training organised by Traficom at least once or twice depending on the the training offering and the number of examinations they have performed.
