Renewing a driving instructor's licence

When your instructor's licence expires, you must apply for the renewal of the licence.

Your licence can be renewed if

  • you meet all Group 2 requirements for fitness to drive
  • you are not subject to a driving ban
  • you provide a medical report.

The medical report is not required if you are under the age of 45 or you have already provided a medical report for monitoring your fitness to drive, for renewing your right to drive or for a driving instructor’s licence during the past five years.

When renewing your driving instructor’s licence, you no longer need to append to the application a certificate of the Specialist Qualification for Driving Instructors.
