In this exceptional year, Traficom will be donating the funds usually spent on its Christmas e-card to support the training and deployment of coronavirus-detecting dogs, which help improve health safety in the travel industry.

“Finland's innovative and fast-moving initiative to make travelling safer by training dogs to detect the coronavirus has attracted delighted attention from around the world. Much research and training work remains to be done, however. We hope that our modest donation will inspire others to help support the further development of this initiative, and that small streams will make big rivers. Together we can make a difference,” said Traficom Director-General Kirsi Karlamaa

“Donations help us continue and develop our efforts to train dogs to identify those who have contracted the coronavirus. All help is greatly appreciated! Our dogs have a lot of work ahead of them, and the experience we gain from helping tackle the coronavirus will make it quicker and easier to deploy them again in case of another pandemic,” said WiseNose (External link) ry Executive Director Susanna Paavilainen
