As new legislation enters into force at the start of February, the mobile driving licence will become officially valid. The mobile driving licence application developed by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom is at its final stage. However, for quality assurance-related reasons, the service will not be launched until its reliability has been verified.

The mobile driving licence application has been tested by a pilot group for a year, and the feedback has been exceptional. However, scaling the application for more extensive use sets additional functionality requirements.

“The overall assessment of the application version to be launched is currently underway. Depending on the outcome of the assessment, we may still have to hone some of the service’s properties. Our objective is to provide a mobile application that serves the public and our interest groups reliably right from the start,” states Hanna Hakanen, Director General of Transport Operators Sector.

“Prior to launching the service, we want to ensure that the performance of the mobile driving licence is as good in extensive use as it has been throughout the pilot project. The service will be launched only after its high quality has been proven,” Hakanen adds.

The mobile driving licence is part of the Autoilija (‘Driver’) application developed by Traficom. Further information about the Autoilija application tested by the pilot group is available at https://www.traficom.fi/en/autoilija-sovellus (External link).
