Information obligations concerning accessibility of passenger transport services

Traficom monitors compliance with the information obligations imposed by the Act on Transport Services. The Act requires providers of passenger transport services to give passengers information about the accessibility of their services. Essential information on accessibility must also be made available via interfaces for use by other operators.

Providers of passenger transport services must make basic information on the accessibility of their services available to passengers in electronic format

Passengers must have access to information in electronic format about services and assistance available to disabled passengers, accessibility of the fleet, and equipment that facilitates passengers in boarding the vehicle and their interaction with the driver. Provisions on passenger transport service providers’ obligation to provide information are laid down in the Act on Transport Services (Act on Transport Services  (External link)) 320/2017, section 150; up-to-date version available in Finnish and Swedish, English translation includes amendments up to 731/2018)

Essential accessibility information on passenger transport services must be made available in machine-readable format

Providers of passenger mobility services must ensure that essential, up-to-date data on their mobility services is also available in a machine-readable format. This allows the data to be used in journey planner services, for example.

Essential data on passenger mobility services includes, for example, information on whether all or some of the means of transport used are accessible, whether they are low-floor vehicles or whether they have places for wheelchairs or passengers travelling with a guide dog.
