Have a pleasant summer break, Finns - using mobile telephones in the EU countries is almost as cheap as in Finland

Are you going to a European holiday destination? Did you know that care-free web surfing on your mobile phone is possible in Europe, because in the EU countries the cost of using a mobile phone is nearly the same as it is in Finland?

matkapuhelimen käyttö EU-maissa on lähes yhtä edullista kuin Suomessa

With many types of subscriptions, Finnish telecommunications operators offer calls, text messages, and the use of data at the same price as those within Finland. Check the information on your subscription from your own operator, or at the very latest, from the text message that you get from your operator when you arrive in an EU country.

In the spring of 2019, the Finnish Transport and Communication Agency Traficom granted, for the third time, authorisation to DNA, Elisa, and Telia to apply a roaming surcharge. DNA, Elisa and Telia may  charge their customers additional fees for data roaming under certain conditions. The amount of the surcharges may not exceed the maximum wholesale charge valid at the time, and the charge is reduced each year.

“In practice, the roaming surcharges applied to EU data roaming are low and reasonable from the user's point of view. Finns today do not need to fear large telephone bills after a holiday trip in Europe from an ordinary amount of data roaming. It is possible to read e-mails, a daily newspaper, and check a map normally on a European holiday”, says Communications Market Specialist Elina Pesonen.
