Driver and Vehicle Services

The Driver and Vehicle Services sector is responsible for public authority duties related to vehicles and driving, as well as the digital services connected to them.

Our work in brief

We

  • register vehicles and maintain the Transport Register
  • issue driving licences and professional driver qualifications
  • ensure the technical safety of vehicles and oversee vehicle inspections
  • grant vehicle type-approvals and carry out market surveillance
  • collect vehicle tax and issue licences for commercial transport
  • develop digital services for motorists and commercial operators

National Cyber Security Centre Finland

The National Cyber Security Centre Finland (NCSC-FI) prevents and combats information security threats and strengthens the security and reliability of communications networks and services.

  • collect and analyse information on security breaches and threats
  • produce a national situational overview of cybersecurity
  • investigate incidents affecting web and communications services
  • assess and approve the security of systems and networks
  • guide and supervise the security of communications networks and services

The Transport Safety and Services sector is responsible for public authority duties related to safety, services and operational reliability across different modes of transport.

  • coordinate transport safety work and promote the effective functioning of transport services
  • carry out duties related to passenger rights
  • issue licences and supervise aviation, maritime transport, rail transport and road infrastructure
  • are responsible for duties related to the transport of dangerous goods
  • ensure preparedness for transport disruptions and emergency conditions
  • carry out tasks related to hydrographic surveying and vessel traffic services

The Information and Future Connections sector is responsible for digital connectivity, data, the transport system and public transport.

  • are responsible for frequency planning, radio licences and the supervision of spectrum use
  • ensure the functioning of digital infrastructure and communications markets
  • maintain the .fi domain and supervise digital services and devices
  • produce transport and communications data to support decision-making
  • develop the transport system and promote sustainable mobility
  • promote public transport through planning, procurement and government grants
  • supervise the implementation of regulation on the data economy and digital services and promote a secure data economy

Futures and Foresight

The Futures and Foresight sector strengthens cross-cutting cooperation across the agency and creates the conditions for Traficom’s long-term development. The sector supports the preparation and implementation of agency-level strategic priorities in close cooperation with the other sectors.

We

  • steer the agency’s EU and international engagement and policy work and strengthen its strategic focus
  • are responsible for separately assigned internal and external development tasks and promote process development
  • coordinate strategic work related to climate, the environment, the transition to alternative energy sources in transport and sustainable growth
  • develop the agency’s research, development and innovation activities and promote the effective use of EU funding
  • organise and develop the agency’s foresight and futures work as well as preparedness
  • implement the agency’s AI programme together with other sectors and monitor developments in artificial intelligence

Administration

Administration is responsible for the agency’s HR services, financial management and facilities management, as well as staff development and other general administrative services. It also oversees operational planning, management and monitoring.

Information Management

Information Management is responsible for the functioning and development of the agency’s information systems and digital services, as well as information management. The sector ensures that the agency’s digital solutions support smooth and secure customer interactions.

Security and Preparedness

The Security and Preparedness sector supports different parts of the agency in implementing risk management, security, data protection and preparedness. It is responsible for ensuring compliance with overall security requirements and steers comprehensive risk management.

Communications and Public Relations

The Communications and Public Relations sector is responsible for developing and coordinating the agency’s communications and public relations activities. It manages the agency’s public profile and brand, promotes engagement with stakeholders and provides the agency’s internal language and translation services.
