Keeping your previous registration number

Were your boat’s data not transferred to Traficom (previously Trafi) in connection with the register transfer on 1 August 2014? In connection with re-registration, your boat will be assigned a new registration number starting with the letter P. The registration number assigned to your boat by the Local Register Office may be reassigned to it upon request if the number is available. In such cases, the transfer of registration number is free of charge, as the number will continue to be attached to the same boat.

Do the following:

Give notification of your wish to keep your registration number

If you wish to keep your old registration number, you can give notification of this as you re-register your boat, or you can send a message to venepaatokset@traficom.fi after re-registration. 

If you give this notification by e-mail, include your contact details and the identifying details of your boat in the message. For example, these details may include the boat’s hull number (the WIN code), or new registration number starting with the letter P.

Registration of the number

The registration number will be transferred once the notification has been received.  

The registration certificate with the new number will be mailed to you in about two weeks. 

However, you may use your boat already before the registration certificate reaches you. If necessary, the authorities can check the system to see that the boat has been registered and that the certificate is being issued.
