Registration numbers
In connection with the first registration, a registration number also indicated in the registration certificate is issued to the watercraft. The registration number consists of the letter P and a series of numbers with at least five digits. The letter for a registration number issued for Teno boats is L. The letter for test identifiers issued to traders is E.
Requirements for registration numbers
- The colour of the letter and the numbers must be such that they are easily distinguishable from their background
- The height of the numbers and the letter of the identifier should be at least 7.5 centimetres, and the line width should be at least 1.5 centimetres
- The spacing between the numbers should be at least 2 centimetres, and the spacing between the letter and the numbers should be at least 4 centimetres, and no more than 10 centimetres
- The identifier plate, if applicable, should be rectangular and at least 12 centimetres high, and it should extend at least 2.5 centimetres on both sides of the identifier
Please attach the test identifier to both sides of the watercraft so that it is clearly visible when the watercraft is in motion.
Special watercraft identifiers
As the boat owner, you may apply for a special watercraft identifier at Traficom. If you are a boat holder and you wish to apply for special identifier, you will have to attach a free-form consent from the owner to your application.
Special identifier format and restrictions
- A special identifier should contain a single letter and 1 to 7 numbers. Identifiers beginning with P, E or L are not available. The first number after the letter may not be a zero (0).
- The use of hyphens or other special characters is not allowed.
- The special identifier may not contain expressions contrary to good manners or public order. We will decide case-by-case whether the identifier applied for will be approved.
- The same identifier may not be used simultaneously for two boats entered in the register.
