Boats purchased abroad

If a watercraft is driven or sailed to Finland from abroad for the purpose of importing it, registration must be completed within seven (7) days of the date of importation.

Here, a used watercraft refers to a watercraft which has previously been used for recreational purposes in the EU or the EEA. 

You will require the following documents:

  • A bill of sale or equivalent certificate of the transfer of ownership for both watercraft and engine. 
    • The bill of sale shall include the data of the vendor and purchaser as well as the identification data for the boat and its engine.
  • If the boat has not previously been used for recreational purposes, a declaration of conformity is required.

 

You will require the following documents:

  • The bill of sale shall include the data of the vendor and purchaser as well as the identification data for the boat and its engine. 
    • A bill of sale or equivalent certificate of the transfer of ownership for both watercraft and engine. 
  • Declaration of conformity for the engine if it is new. 
  • Declaration of conformity for the watercraft.  

The watercraft must be CE marked and must have a declaration of conformity provided by the manufacturer when it is placed on the market for the first time within the EU or the EEA.
