Maritime barometer: Cautious optimism for shipping volumes and investments despite uncertainty
The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom conducted a maritime barometer survey among industry stakeholders in January 2026. According to the barometer, maritime transport volumes are expected to increase over the next 12 months. Investment outlooks are also largely positive, although economic and geopolitical uncertainty continues to weigh on the operating environment. The survey was conducted before the challenges to maritime transport arising from the situation in the Middle East.
The Turku Archipelago receives a new and more detailed nautical chart series
, updated at 14:18The nautical chart series for the Turku Archipelago has been renewed. The charts are now based on the N2000 height system and include more detailed hydrographic survey data than before.
New requirements for ships regarding waste delivery receipts as from 1 January 2023
Since the beginning of 2023, all ships falling within the scope of the EU Vessel Traffic Monitoring Directive (2002/59/EC) have been required to submit a waste delivery receipt via the maritime information management system Portnet. The requirement applies to ships of 300 gross tonnage and upwards.
