The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom will host CITA meetings on 28–30 March 2023 in cooperation with YKL ry, an association of private inspection stations, and A-Katsastus Group Oy, a vehicle inspection service provider. The agenda includes, for example, the drafting of a recommendation on vehicle suspension. The recommendation will include best inspection practices intended to support the drafting of a new directive on roadworthiness tests for motor vehicles.

The International Motor Vehicle Inspection Committee (CITA) works to improve road safety and protect the environment by developing vehicle inspection activities at international level. It is also a global forum for sharing knowledge, experiences and expertise concerning vehicle inspections. CITA has members across the world.

Helsinki will host three CITA meetings on 28–30 March 2023. On the first day, the focus will be on the contents of vehicle inspections, meaning ways to improve the inspection process. The second day will involve a presentation on Finnish inspection activities and discussions on international inspection matters. Participants will also get to hear about the Finnish Traffic Safety Strategy, which has attracted interest among guests. The final day will be dedicated to the inspection of vehicle suspension components and a related recommendation. “The drafting of the recommendation has progressed well, and it will likely be ready for publication in June 2023,” says Tatu Siivonen, a CITA Task Force leader and inspector at Traficom.

“As an international forum for improving vehicle inspections and road safety, CITA is a very important organisation for operators in the vehicle inspection sector. For us, co-hosting CITA expert meetings in Finland is a wonderful opportunity,” says Hannu Pellikka, technical director at A-Katsastus Group Oy. “Acknowledging and implementing new technologies in vehicles and vehicle inspection methods is also important in order to reach the social objectives of inspection activities. The meetings are an opportunity to set common rules at international level to ensure the equal and fair treatment of people,” adds Björn Ziessler, executive director at YKL ry.

The meetings will be attended by approximately twenty people from across Europe.
