State-subsidised scheduled air services to five regional airports to continue until April 2024

Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom has concluded contracts on the utilisation of the option with Finnair Oyj to allow state-subsidised scheduled air services between five regional airports and Helsinki to continue until 28 April 2024.

The utilisation of the option in the contract between Traficom and Finnair was enabled by the Parliament of Finland granting EUR 17 million of additional funding on 1 March 2023.

“Since this is an option, the service level will remain primarily unchanged. However, some changes to the flight schedules may be made during the contract period to better meet the air services needs of the regions,” states Director Pipsa Eklund.

The routes operated by Finnair are:

  • Joensuu - Helsinki
  • Jyväskylä - Helsinki
  • Kajaani - Helsinki
  • Kemi - Kokkola - Helsinki

The aim is for scheduled air services to the regions to continue on market terms after the state-subsidised period. The tickets for the option period will become available for purchase today in the early afternoon.
