Traficom messages increasingly delivered via Suomi.fi Messages
Communication from public authorities became primarily digital on 14 April 2026. This means that more and more people will receive messages from Traficom via Suomi.fi Messages instead of by post.
Digital communication makes it quicker to deal with official matters and easier to keep track of important messages. Suomi.fi Messages brings communications from public authorities together in one place and notifies you when you receive a new message. You can also use the service as an authorised person on someone else’s behalf.
The change is based on legislation that requires public authorities to use electronic delivery methods as their primary communication channel. In 2025, Traficom sent approximately 3.4 million messages via Suomi.fi Messages.
Vehicle taxation among the services affected
Traficom can use Suomi.fi Messages to deliver documents such as vehicle tax bills, letters concerning driving rights, driving instruction permit decisions and reminders about unpaid vehicle tax and expiring driving rights. Frequency fee invoices can also be delivered via Suomi.fi Messages. The service is also used to send various confirmations, receipts and notifications concerning transactions.
You can continue to receive vehicle tax bills and frequency fee invoices as e-invoices or via OmaPosti or Kivra as before.
Paper mail will continue for some
People who do not use digital services will continue to receive paper mail, as will, for example, minors and people under guardianship. The delivery method can be changed back to paper mail in the settings.
Learn to recognise genuine messages from public authorities
Traficom would like to remind users that genuine emails from Suomi.fi do not contain links for signing in. A message containing such a link may be a scam attempt. Suomi.fi Messages does not send text messages or messages through instant messaging services.
