Updated regulation on urban rail transport enters into force on 7 September 2026
The updated regulation on urban rail transport issued by the Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom will enter into force on 7 September 2026.
The purpose of the revision is to improve the safety of urban rail transport and to bring the regulation into line with changes in legislation. The amendments concern, in particular, safety management systems, health and vision requirements for drivers, notification of new urban rail transport projects, and the reporting of accidents and incidents.
The regulation implements a recommendation issued by the Safety Investigation Authority, Finland (SIAF) concerning the definition of risk-based national health requirements for tram drivers and the monitoring of their health. The regulation also specifies the requirements concerning medical examinations.
