On this page, you will find corrections to printed nautical charts as well as other important notices for mariners, published in the Notices to Mariners service
Maritime transport professionals are required to follow the service and constantly update their nautical charts in accordance with the notices. Boaters are required to follow the service and take the notices into account during journeys requiring route planning. Boaters are strongly advised to continuously follow the service and keep their nautical charts up to date.
The purpose of the service is to publish updates to printed copies of nautical charts and other products and to provide information on matters that are important to navigational safety. Notices to Mariners provide information about changes and arrangements regarding;
- chart corrections
- changes in aids to navigation
- obstructions to navigation
- nautical publications
The QR-code links to the history of a chart
Charts published since 1.1.2017 has a QR code printed on the chart. The QR code includes a direct link to the entire correction record in the search service. If no code is displayed on the chart, the correction record can be found in the compiled lists of notices to mariners.
Notices search service
In the Notices to Mariners search service, chart corrections can be searched by area, product (chart) or by the time of publication. The service includes Notices published since 10.4.2016.
Compilations from year 2005 onwards
The Notices to Mariners (NtM)-booklet is published every 10 days. On the 10th, 20th and last day of the month. The PDF booklet is free and available to download. In the chart-specific notices upi cam search for corrections and notices by chart.
Temporary (T)- and Preliminary (P) notices
A separate list is maintained of Temporary- and Preliminary notices in force. The notices are categorized by region, notices covering all Finnish watercourses can be found in the Notices to Mariners search services and in the end of the Notices to Mariners-booklet.
Block corrections
If there are significant changes to the chart information, which are challenging to inform and correct on the printed chart so-called block corrections can be published. The changes are updated with chart images which are printed and aligned on top of the chart and glued or taped on to the printed nautical chart.
