Order a watercraft registration certificate

The registration certificate is trilingual and in the format of a driving licence. Keep the registration certificate with you when using your watercraft. You can order a new registration certificate, a duplicate or both in My e-Services.

When can you order a registration certificate?

You can order a registration certificate if you are the owner or holder of the watercraft. There can be no more than two valid registration certificates. Apart from the sequence number, the duplicate is identical to the valid registration certificate.

If one of the registration certificates is lost, order both registration certificates again. A new duplicate will not be sent automatically.

Do the following

  1. Step 1

    Log in to our service

  2. Step 2

    Place your order

Choose whether you want to order a new registration certificate, a duplicate or both. Select the recipient of the certificate. The recipient must be one of the watercraft’s owners or holders.

Enter the phone number and email address.

  3. Step 3

    Approve the order and pay

Pay for the order. Return to My e-Services before closing your browser. This way, you will receive a confirmation and can print the receipt.

The registration certificate will be sent to the address recorded for you in the Digital and Population Data Services Agency within two weeks.

If you are unable to submit your registration electronically, you may visit any registration office of your choice.
Remember to also bring proof of identity.

When can you fly the Finnish flag on a boat?

There are two types of registration certificate. One of them displays the Finnish flag.

You can receive a registration certificate displaying the Finnish flag if more than 60% of the watercraft is owned by a Finnish citizen or a Finnish legal entity. In that case, you may also fly the Finnish flag on the boat.

Registration certificate and a register extract are different documents

The registration certificate must be kept on board the boat. A register extract is a separate A4-size printout containing the watercraft’s registration details.

If you need a trilingual register extract with a stamp and signature, you can order one from Traficom. The register extract costs EUR 25, and you will be invoiced afterwards. A register extract does not replace a valid registration certificate.

You can also print an extract of your own watercraft’s details free of charge in My e-Services. This extract does not include a stamp or signature and is not an official document.

Using the registration number, you can check the technical details, engine details and ownership information of any watercraft entered in the Transport Register in our Public Watercraft Data service.

The information available in the service corresponds to the information included in the register extract that can be ordered from Traficom.
