Updated Regulation on Finnish Ice Classes Corresponding to Classification Notations and Confirmation of Ice Class
The Finnish Transport and Communications Agency Traficom has issued an updated regulation on Finnish ice classes equivalent to class notations and establishing the ice classes of ships (TRAFICOM/281964/03.04.01.00/2023). The regulation will enter into force on January 1, 2025, replacing the regulation issued by the Finnish Transport Safety Agency on December 1, 2017, regarding Finnish ice classes equivalent to class notations of recognized classification societies and the determination of the ice classes of ships (TRAFI/383804/03.04.01.00/2016).
The updated regulation brings the equivalence table of Finnish ice classes corresponding to the classification notations of approved classification societies up to date. The regulation also clarifies the existing provisions and specifies the procedures for confirming the ice class.
The issuance of the regulation does not change the practices for determining or confirming the ice class based on the classification notation or by application.
