Transportation of dangerous goods

Transportation of dangerous goods

The purpose of the transport of dangerous goods is to contribute to the functionality and competitiveness of the logistics chain by ensuring that dangerous goods are handled and transported in an environmentally sound manner. The purpose of the legislation on the transport of dangerous goods is to prevent and combat any damage and danger which may be caused to persons, the environment or property by the transport of dangerous goods.

The transport of dangerous goods serves Finnish industry and consumers on a daily basis. Effective and efficient freight transport is a fundamental component of the well-being of society. These include the transport of many raw materials and preparations by chemical production and storage facilities, as well as the transport of fuels and gases. Various products are transported to other industries and production, and directly to retailers. In addition to the usual consumer products (e.g. aerosols, paints), dangerous goods are also transported for agricultural and forestry purposes (e.g. fertilizers and pesticides). Waste shall be carried in accordance with the regulations on the transport of dangerous goods if they have properties classified as dangerous in transport. Most of the materials transported are fuel oils and transport fuels.

Transport operations are international in nature. Traficom represents Finland at industry meetings and actively participates in international cooperation.
