How to prohibit the disclosure of your data

In principle, Traficom's registers are public. However, you have a right to restrict the disclosure of your personal data. You can restrict the disclosure of your data depending on the intended use of the data. This means that you can choose the purposes for disclosing your data.

These purposes include:

You may prohibit the disclosure of your data in an open interface if you have a licence for passenger or goods transport or a taxi transport licence. If you have a licence to drive a taxi, for example, you may prevent your personal data from appearing on a service built on the interface, based on which customers seek taxi drivers in their area.

You may prohibit the disclosure of your data as an individual release. This means that your contact information will not be available in an SMS service, for example. However, your name and information about your vehicles still appear in the service.

Transport-related purposes mean, for example, providing and developing transport services, research, address and information services, as well as the updating of register data. You have the right to prohibit the disclosure of your personal data for such transport-related purposes. In such a case your data will not necessarily be visible when you visit car dealerships and service establishments. Companies will also not be able to keep their customer registers up-to-date, and you will need to update your information yourself.

The disclosure of public data for transport-related purposes includes the disclosure of public data for direct marketing. If you want your data to be disclosed for another transport-related purpose, but do not want marketing messages from vehicle inspection companies or car dealerships, for example, you can prohibit the disclosure of your data for direct marketing.

In individual cases, Traficom may also disclose data for development and innovation activities with the objective of developing and providing the transport system and services, increasing awareness and understanding of it, improving traffic safety, and promoting the achievement of environmental objectives in transport.

Both natural persons as well as companies and organisations have the possibility to prohibit the disclosure of their data for development and innovation activities.

Notwithstanding secrecy provisions, Traficom has the right to disclose data to another authority or a party responsible for statutory duties to the extent necessary for the performance of their statutory duties. It is not possible to prohibit the disclosure of data for a statutory task.

Companies and organisations cannot restrict the disclosure of their data for activities other than those involving development and innovation.

How to prohibit the disclosure of your data

You can prohibit the disclosure of your data in Traficom's e-Services under 'Omat tiedot' (available in Finnish and Swedish).

Or by telephone +358 29 534 5100 (standard local network charge/standard mobile rate) (Mon-Fri 8.00-16.15).

Non-disclosure for safety reasons

If you have a justified reason to suspect that the health or safety of yourself or your family could be  threatened, you may apply for an order of non-disclosure for personal safety from the Digital and Population Data Services Agency. The non-disclosure recorded by the Digital and Population Data Services Agency is automatically transferred to the Transport Register maintained by Traficom.

In the Transport Register, non-disclosure for personal safety reasons means that your name and contact details can only be disclosed to public authorities and for the completion of a statutory task. Your details will also be omitted from automatically printed registration certificates. This means that you cannot order a registration certificate via our e-services. Instead, you have to order the certificate in person at a vehicle inspection station that offers registration services.
