Scrap a vehicle and perform its final deregistration

You can permanently remove your vehicle from the register by submitting it for recycling free of charge at an official take-back point of Suomen Autokierrätys Oy. Passenger cars and vans must always be submitted to an official take-back point for scrapping in order to be permanently removed from the register.

At the Suomen Autokierrätys take-back point, you will receive a certificate of destruction once you have taken your vehicle there. The take-back point will take care of the deregistration of your vehicle. After the scrapping and final deregistration have been completed by the take-back point, you do not need to make any other notification about it. Please contact the take-back point if you have any further questions regarding the scrapping or final deregistration of the vehicle.

If the vehicle that is to be scrapped is not a car or van, you can also scrap it elsewhere. If you have scrapped a vehicle in some other way than through an official take-back point, you have to perform the final deregistration yourself.

Do the following if you have scrapped a vehicle outside an official take-back point

  • Step 1

    Log in to My e-Services

After identification, select your service role: personal services, acting on behalf of another person or acting on behalf of a company/an organisation.

  • Step 2

Perform the scrapping of a vehicle in the Vehicles and taxation section

Select Report the scrapping of a vehicle.

  • Step 3

    Approve the notification

You can save the receipt if you want. You can also later check that the scrapping of a vehicle succeeded on the My Activities page.

Exceptional situations related to final deregistration

If your vehicle was destroyed in an accident or a fire, you may request permanent deregistration in My e-Services. You can also deliver the Report on destruction of vehicle (B144) form to the Traficom registry, accompanied by a certificate of destruction issued by the police or the rescue department.

If your vehicle was scrapped or destroyed abroad, you can request final deregistration in My e-Services. You can also deliver the Report on destruction of vehicle (B144) form to the Traficom registry, accompanied by a foreign scrapping certificate or an official report on the destruction of the vehicle.

Insurance companies claim destroyed vehicles and deliver them to Suomen Autokierräyts Oy’s official take-back points for final decommissioning.

Municipalities submit end-of-life vehicles whose ownership has been transferred to them to Suomen Autokierrätys Oy’s official take-back points for final decommissioning. If a vehicle whose ownership has been transferred to the municipality is not an end-of-life vehicle, it will be decommissioned.
