Global Aviation Safety Plan GASP
ICAO maintains a Global Aviation Safety Plan (GASP) to improve aviation safety globally and in a coordinated manner.
GASP as a part of the global chain of safety management
The Global Aviation Safety Plan GASP (ICAO Doc 10004) was created to facilitate global and coordinated improvement of aviation safety.
The Global Aviation Safety Plan GASP (ICAO Doc 10004) is updated every three years and is first approved by the ICAO Council and finally by the ICAO General Assembly. The purpose of GASP is to strengthen the role of safety as a top priority for civil aviation and to bring together and support the implementation of globally defined safety objectives and safety performance areas.
GASP provides guidelines for regional and national safety work and safety management structures. GASP takes into account regional differences in the current state of safety, as well as state resources. The principle is to continuously improve safety, but in a way that takes into account the realities of the economy and the cost/benefit ratio of the measures.
The Global Aviation Safety Roadmap (Doc 10161), previously annexed to GASP and now published as an independent document, contains more detailed action plans to help the international aviation community, regional authorities and states achieve the goals set in GASP.
