Fuelling mobile machinery with fuel oil

It is not necessary to pay a fuel fee for e.g. mobile machinery and work machines mounted on a vehicle chassis, without any other bed, tank or other cargo space directly related to the task of the work machine.

What is a mobile machinery?

The vehicle category of a mobile machinery is MTK. They include e.g. shovel loaders, forklifts, reach stackers, boom cranes and excavators.

Fuel oil can be used in a mobile machinery while

  • working at the work site.
  • carrying out transport due to its purpose of use at the work site.
  • carrying out transport with a work machine instead of a trailer. Maximum tank size: 2 m³
  • moving a work machine from one work site to another.
  • transporting your own fuels and lubricants.
  • moving a work machine to maintenance or a tank, for example.

Please note! You cannot pay a daily fee for a mobile machinery or a tractor with centre pivot steering operated by means of hydraulic pressure.

When is a tractor equipped as a mobile machinery?

A tractor is considered to have been equipped as a mobile machinery when a machine or device intended to be powered by it has been connected to the tractor, such as:

  • a bulldozer blade or snow plough
  • a snowblower
  • a loader, digger, brushing device or sand spreader
  • a gritting trailer
  • a plough, drag or harrow
  • a vibrating roller
  • other similar tool
  • if the tractor is used to power e.g. a compressor, pump, mill or circular saw.

A tractor to which a trailer has been connected is not considered a tractor equipped as a mobile machinery.

With a mobile machinery, you can:

  • pick up sand into a container from a storage location and come back to continue the task of the work machine (applies to mobile machinerys with a container of 2 m³ at maximum).
  • transfer wood chips from a heap into the mouth of a shredder at the work site with a shovel loader.
  • transfer steel and iron sheets at the work site from the storage area to a hall with a shovel loader. Loading and unloading sheets are also mobile machinery tasks. You can also use a shovel loader on the site for ordinary snow removal as well as other maintenance of the site.
  • transfer stone chips coming from the crushing plant at an asphalt mixing plant into a heap of crushed stone at the work site with a shovel loader.
  • transfer (pile) snow in the work site with a shovel loader.

With a mobile machinery, you cannot:

  • transfer timber bundles with a shovel loader from the company’s own work site to a subcontractor’s work site partially along a public road, unless the sites form one single continuous work site.
  • transport heaps of piled snow from the work site to the snow dump. This is not a work task carried out at the work site; it means transporting snow. Transport must be carried out with another vehicle suitable for the purpose.

If you submit an application, Traficom can issue a preliminary decision on whether a vehicle can be used for a certain task with fuel oil. Preliminary decisions are subject to a fee of EUR 250. You can send a free-form written application to the address kirjaamo(at)traficom.fi or
