Receiving official mail became primarily digital as of 14 April 2026

As of 14 April 2026, when you identify yourself in Traficom's or another authority’s electronic service for the first time, you will be directed to activate Suomi.fi Messages.

This means that Traficom sends the vehicle tax bill and vehicle tax reminder electronically to Suomi.fi Messages if you use Suomi.fi Messages and do not use any other electronic channels.

If you do not use the e-services of public administration, the change will not affect you, and you will continue to receive paper mail from authorities. The change also does not apply to minors, persons under guardianship or persons with a valid continuing power of attorney.

At the moment, vehicle tax bills cannot be sent to companies via Suomi.fi Messages.

Paper mail will remain an option for those who are not affected by the change or who do not use an electronic mailbox.

State Treasury’s priority order

The delivery method for vehicle tax bills is selected according to the order of priority defined by the State Treasury:

  1. E-invoice
  2. OmaPosti
  3. Kivra
  4. Suomi.fi Messages
  5. Letter post

Please note that Traficom does not send vehicle tax bills by email attachment or via text message.

E-invoice

You can receive invoices in electronic format in your online bank. These are called e-invoices. The invoice contains all the required information, and all you need to do is check the invoice and confirm the payment.

You can order an e-invoice proposal for vehicle tax in My e-services and accept it in your online bank.

You can also order an e-invoice through your own online bank. To order e-invoices, you need your vehicle tax customer number. The customer number is marked on the vehicle tax bill, and you can check it from Traficom’s My e-Services under My details.

When ordering the e-invoice, please note that the vehicle tax bills for all the vehicles of the taxpayer specified in the vehicle tax bill will be sent to the online bank as an e-invoice. To make sure that you do not order another person’s vehicle tax bills to your online bank, review the taxpayer information carefully. For more information about ordering e-invoices, please contact your own bank.

OmaPosti will send you a notification when you receive a vehicle tax bill, if you have activated notifications in the application. You can pay your vehicle taxes directly in the OmaPosti app.

Suomi.fi Messages

Suomi.fi Messages is a secure way to interact with the public administration. Once you start using the service, you will receive your vehicle tax bills electronically in Suomi.fi Messages.
